#OSFAIR2025

OSFAIR 2025 provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of work related to the foundational or more concrete aspects of Open Science: from policy formulation and implementation, infrastructure and service provisioning to turn Open Science into practice, to building and sustaining the human element to support it in the long run.

16 September 2025

The workshop is designed for policymakers, infrastructure developers, funders, and leaders in the open science community, aiming to build an inclusive, sustainable, and collaborative global framework. It will highlight China’s recent efforts in open science infrastructure and invite international insights to define shared priorities and actionable pathways.
Participants will engage in in-depth discussions on key topics such as collaborative implementation pathways, cooperation standards, and organizational mechanisms.

As Open Science accelerates, licensing models must evolve. Join us for a hands-on workshop to explore OpenREL, a new rights expression toolkit developed in Horizon Europe EOSC Beyond project. Learn how to represent complex access and reuse conditions in machine-readable form, from GDPR compliance to dual licensing and ethical constraints. Work through real-life cases with peers, shape the future of rights governance, and help build a FAIRer, trusted Open Science ecosystem.

From Principles to Practice: Putting Responsible Research Assessment into Action.

The question is no longer why we need to reform research assessment, but how. This hands-on workshop introduces the Open Infrastructure Checklist, a practical tool developed by the CoARA WG on Open Infrastructures for RRA. Together, we will test its application on real-world services like OpenAIRE’s Researcher Profile, GraspOS Horizon Europe Project, and IOI’s Infra Finder. Join us to co-evaluate, co-create, and shape the future of research assessment, open, ethical, and built to last.

From Commitment to Action: Making the Barcelona Declaration Work
The Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information has sparked global momentum, but how do we turn principles into practice? In this collaborative session, we will explore real-world challenges in implementing open research information and co-develop actionable strategies to address them. Whether your organization has signed the Declaration or is just exploring it, join fellow policy makers, open science officers, and infrastructure providers to help shape a shared roadmap for openness, equity, and responsible research assessment.

Designing What Matters: Rethinking Open Science Monitoring Together
How should we measure and reward Open Science in ways that matter to researchers, institutions, and funders? In this 90-minute co-creation workshop, participants will build their own Open Science dashboard using real indicators from PathOS and GraspOS Horizon Projects. Working in groups, you’ll craft visual prototypes, debate what to measure and why, and explore how stories, not just scores, can drive meaningful change in research assessment. Join us to design smarter, fairer ways to track Open Science impact.

Telling the Story of Open Science Impact: From Indicators to Action
As Open Science policies gain traction, so does the need to show what impact they truly have. This hands-on workshop introduces the Open Science Indicator Handbook from the PathOS Horizon Europe project, your guide to designing meaningful, evidence-based indicators. Join peers in crafting real-world narratives around indicators that matter. Explore how tracking open practices can shape behavior, influence policy, and advance equity and societal benefit. From numbers to stories, help turn impact into insight.

Belonging in Data Science: Designing Inclusive Research Infrastructures

Open Science isn’t just about access — it’s about belonging. This world café workshop explores how to foster inclusive participation in data science, where technical barriers and cultural norms often exclude women and newcomers. Through real-life use cases and rotating group discussions, we will co-design strategies to make research infrastructures more welcoming, equitable, and effective. Bring your experiences, ideas, and curiosity, and help shape a more inclusive data future.
