Workshop abstract

The Research Data Alliance (RDA) is an international organization that aims to build technical and social bridges for data sharing and builds on a vision in which data is shared freely across technologies, disciplines and countries, to respond to the challenges of society. The RDA Europe, which is the European component of the global RDA, is promoting the creation of national nodes through calls that require the definition of goals and plans. The RDA-pt application was approved and aims to create an agile structure for the promotion of the RDA in Portugal.

The RDA-pt workshop starts with a brief introduction to the objectives of the RDA and its organization, namely the Interest Groups and Working Groups where RDA activities are proposed and developed. Going into the RDA-pt node plan, we present the current initiatives and the sustainability plans for a node of this nature, designed to take advantage of existing skills and results in many areas.

The second part of the workshop has a more practical nature and is based on the experience and current needs of the participants. Picking examples from the audience, we will search for RDA groups where relevant work is ongoing, taking a look at their results and recommendations. In more than 100 active groups there is work done by thousands of participants, addressing generic issues such as identifiers, infrastructures and storage, and other specific issues such as disciplinary data, metadata and data processing.

target audience

The workshop is aimed at disseminating RDA and the RDA-pt node in the Portuguese community, taking advantage of the visibility of the Open Science FAIR. Conversely, the workshop is expected to increase the Portuguese participation in the Open Science FAIR, attracting participants who are looking for solutions at national level, combined with the international perspective of the OSF.
